what is a campaign?

A promotional campaign promotes a business, event or product to a specific audience by sharing the same messages and ideas through a series of advertisements using various marketing tools. 

campaigns must be co-ordinated to achieve the defined goals set. Timing, imagery, message and more all need to be thought out to achieve maximum effectiveness. 

Film companies use a very wide range of media to help create a promotional campaign. for example;

• trailers 
• social media
• interviews
• competitions 
• giveaways 
• billboards 
• synergies with toy/costume/accessory manufactures 
• sponsorships with brands 
• sponsorships with food and drink companies 
• premieres, reviews, awards etc

For example...

Marvel are a huge company with many branches that create different products there is Marvel Comics, Marvel studios (Marvel Universe), Marvel Entertainment. They have recently started advertising their new film from Marvel Studios, the third Spiderman film in their series. on three of the lead actors Instagram and social media pages they posted an image of the new movie poster with the film name, but plot twist.... all the actors had different names for the film. This then had people sharing the images and giving their opinions on the different names, speculating what hey thought it meant and what was real. This is a very clever way to build up hype and anticipation for a film.

These were the images posted by the actors on social media. 

A day later this video was posted to socials of the cast members talking about not knowing what the title was, however at the end of the video a white board is shown with name ideas that had been brain stormed with the title in the middle... SPIDER-MAN: No Way Home.

 

     

                                              

This then led to lots of news coverage just about the announcement of the film title. 

This is a great example of a company using multiple platforms in a cohesive way to gain publicity and free advertisement.
